“The elders no longer sit in the city gates. The young men no longer dance and sing.” Ancient Lament

As I read this author’s lament over the destruction of his city, I see in it a clear call to action for our culture as a whole. The city gates were a place of power, influence and tremendous responsibility. Throughout history, elders have served an important role as the city gatekeepers by dispensing wisdom, sharing stories, and training the next generation.
